One Step Closer to Restoring Faith In Humanity

The Positive Vibe

Every once in a while, I have these seemingly crazy daydreams. I remember walking home from school or sitting by the window on the bus, and these “scenarios” would pop into my head.

“What would I do if…?”

What would I do if I saw an accident on the freeway? Would I stop to help even if the scene of the accident was dangerous? What would I do if I saw someone flagging down help? What would I do if I saw someone in danger? Would I risk my own life to save a stranger?

Most of us would like to think that we would do the right thing, but it’s easy to talk ourselves out of it. We live in cynical times. “Surely someone else called 911 by now. It’s too dangerous to stop in the middle of the freeway. ” “I always hear stories about people who stopped to…

Finding Your Path

The Hidden Path is located at 71 Terrace St., Suite 101, Struthers, Ohio.

STRUTHERS-In July of 2003, a new store was introduced into the Struthers community. April Elliott and Linda Hiner opened up a shop that was not only unique, but also majestic, bringing forth new flavors to the city.

For almost nine years now, The Hidden Path is still beating in the heart of downtown Struthers and it’s just bursting with innovative and creative ways to broaden customers physical, mental and spiritual horizons.

The locally owned establishment started with a personal objective; self discovery and healing. Along with millions of other people, Elliot shared that she too, had struggled with anxiety. “It was almost agoraphobic. I was hiding, and that is how the Hidden Path got started.” she admits. “We all walk our own paths and they are all hidden, but we all have the same common denominator–a beating heart.”

The Hidden Path is much more than just your ordinary corner shop, but what is it about this local business that makes it different than all the rest? For starters, there is a personal touch to their customer service. “We want people to feel like they fit in. I’m a listener and there is a lot to listen to–I learn a lot from people.” states Elliott.

Upon entering the locally owned business, you can’t help but notice the vast array of herbal teas, incense, candles, music, jewelry, etc., and it doesn’t stop there. Workshops have become a recent addition to accommodate customer’s needs.

Valerie Dearing has been teaching Yoga for five years. Much like April Elliott, her journey also started out as a personal quest. “I had a really bad year; one of the lowest periods of my life and the very first class I took was amazing.” Dearing comments. She would later start teaching her own classes and as fate had it, she landed on the road that would lead her to The Hidden Path. “I love this place, it was a mutual attraction. I just fell into it and when you fall into it that easily, it’s always meant to be.” says Dearing.

Yoga does many wonders for the mind and body. Dearing comments, “It opens the body to the possibilities of being: physically, mentally and spiritually.” At the end of each session Valerie shares the Savasana pose. “It is a deep relaxation and it allows everything that we did in class to come into the body and mind.” she states.

There are many exceptional workshops that are provided at the shop and when you look at the calendar of events, it’s easy to find one that fulfills exactly what you are looking for.

The entrance hall is always decorated for every season and holiday. Along with owning the business, both April Elliott and Linda Hiner make crafts, decorations, and jewelry.

Cindy Wellman, who is a Psychic Medium and a teacher of Reiki explains, “The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words: Rei, which means “Gods wisdom” and Ki, which means “life fore energy,” “Mikao Usui developed the Reiki universal healing energy system after years of studying spiritual healing of many kinds.” She converses, “He received the ability to heal with Reiki energy during a spiritual initiation after long fasting and meditation on one of Japan’s many sacred mountains.”

Similar to yoga, reiki provides the opportunity to learn more about the inner-self and aids in natural physical healing. “Reiki can help alleviate suffering whether it is of a physical, mental, emotional or spiritual nature.” says Wellman. “ It helps cleanse the body of energetic and physical toxins.”

Amongst the various classes taught at The Hidden Path, you are sure to run into many of the open-minded and open-hearted people that work within the shop. Meichelle McClellan, who is an ordained minister and Psychic Medium, also teaches at the Path. Her Positive Manifestation and Spiritual Enlightenment workshops are offered every two weeks. “It’s to know and understand that anything we put our minds to we can achieve, and that does mean anything.” she explains.

“I have always been a pretty optimistic person and have a deep passion for helping others. Sometimes it feels like people happen to just fall into my lap.” says McClellan. In terms of her own personal past experiences, she undauntedly has overcome many hardships and now she wants to help others who may be going through some hard times of their own.

“The reason I do what I do is because I would hate to see anyone have to go through some of the things that I have endured through my years on this planet. I don’t want them to feel like there isn’t someone who really cares or that they are alone and that there is no way out or that there is no help available.” states McClellan.

Today’s world is plagued by the stress of just simply surviving. There are limited outside resources that can take those struggles and relieve them, but that doesn’t mean you can’t rebuild your strength from the inside. Try meeting new people and learning new things because you might be surprised at how wonderful new explorations can feel. Having an open mind can go a long way, but having an open heart goes even farther.

The Hidden Path is far from an average store, but it’s a place where anyone can go and feel welcome. So the next time you are seeking a new journey in life, find the road that leads to The Hidden Path, you might just find what your searching for.
